横根スキー場, Yokone ski resort

Yokone is a micro-resort in Yamagata Prefecture that suits only the most niche skiers: locals seeking convenient practice runs, families with young children needing gentle slopes, or curious visitors wanting to experience Japan's smallest ski areas. With just 0.6 km of piste, 117 m of vertical, and two lifts serving a base elevation of only 141 m, this is not a destination resort. It is a neighbourhood hill.

The honest caveat is stark: snow reliability is variable, meaning conditions are unpredictable and the season (December to May) offers no guarantee of skiable snow at such low elevation. Off-piste terrain is negligible (1/5 rating). The day pass at JPY 6000 (approximately JPY 900,000 or USD 6000) appears to be a data error or reflects an unusual pricing structure - verify current rates before planning. This is a place to ski if you live nearby or are documenting Japan's smallest resorts, not a trip destination.

We recommend Yokone only if you are based in Yamagata and want a quick local run, or if you are a resort completist. For any serious skiing in Japan, look to Nagano or Hokkaido's established areas instead.
