Onogawa Onsen is a micro-resort in Yamagata Prefecture that suits only the most niche travellers - those seeking a genuine hot-spring village experience with skiing as a minor footnote rather than the main event. With just 0.4 km of piste, 105 m of vertical, and a single lift, this is not a destination for serious skiers or anyone expecting conventional resort infrastructure. The appeal lies entirely in the onsen culture and local charm, with skiing as an occasional diversion during a winter wellness retreat.

The honest caveat is stark: snow reliability is variable at best (18/100), the terrain is negligible, and at JPY 6000 for an adult day pass, the pricing is absurdly high relative to what's on offer - this appears to be a local facility where the day-pass cost may reflect bundled onsen access or be a data anomaly. The December-to-May season window is reasonable for Japan's snow belt, but don't expect consistent conditions. This resort has no off-piste terrain worth mentioning and no capacity to absorb crowds.
