Aillon-Margériaz is a beginner's mountain, full stop. With 28 easy runs against just 5 harder ones, this is where families with young children and nervous skiers come to build confidence on gentle, forgiving terrain. The 447 m vertical and modest 20.2 km of piste mean you won't be chasing big descents or spending hours in the chair, but that's precisely the point - short runs mean more laps, more practice, and less fatigue for learners. The lift infrastructure is solid for the size, and the very good snow reliability through the season (December to April) means you're not gambling on conditions.

The honest caveat: if you're an intermediate or advanced skier, you'll outgrow this place in a morning. The three intermediate runs and two advanced runs are token gestures, and the 1/5 off-piste rating tells you there's virtually nothing for adventurous skiers beyond the groomed runs. The base elevation of 1386 m is modest, so early and late season snow can be patchy despite the "very good" rating. At EUR 60 per adult day pass, it's reasonably priced for the Alps, but you're paying for a nursery slope with excellent infrastructure, not a destination resort.

We'd recommend Aillon-Margériaz for families with children aged 4-10, adult beginners, or anyone recovering from injury who needs confidence-building terrain. It's a specialist resort with a clear mission - and it executes that mission well. Just don't expect variety or challenge.
