With just 8 km of piste, three lifts, and a base elevation of only 670 m, this is not a destination for serious skiers seeking varied terrain or reliable powder days. The 641 m vertical drop is modest, and the off-piste rating of 1/5 confirms there is virtually nothing beyond the groomed runs.

What makes Hakkoda worth considering at all is its location in one of Japan's snowiest regions and its remarkably low day-pass cost of JPY 6000 - a fraction of what you'll pay at major resorts.
