Makovica ski resort

Makovica is a tiny, local hill in eastern Slovakia suited only to absolute beginners and families with very young children seeking a gentle introduction to skiing within easy reach of the Prešov region. With just 0.8 km of piste and a single lift serving a 182 m vertical drop, this is not a destination resort - it is a neighbourhood slope for casual weekenders and school groups. The modest EUR 48 day pass reflects its limited scope.

The critical weakness is snow reliability, rated at just 14/100, which means you will frequently find the hill closed or operating on thin cover during the December-to-April season. Eastern Slovakia's climate does not guarantee consistent snow, and at only 565 m elevation, Makovica sits in a marginal zone where rain is as likely as snow. Off-piste terrain is essentially non-existent (1/5 rating). There is no terrain park, no moguls, no tree skiing, and no adventure beyond the groomed ribbon.

We recommend Makovica only if you live locally and want a quick ski fix on a good snow day, or if you are introducing a toddler to skis on a protected slope. For any serious skiing holiday - even a short one - look elsewhere in the High Tatras or across the border to Poland or Austria. This hill is not worth planning a trip around.
