Binding

The mechanism that attaches a boot to a ski or snowboard, releasing in a fall to reduce injury.

Alpine ski bindings consist of a toe piece and heel piece that clamp the boot and release laterally or vertically in a crash. The release force is set by the DIN value, calculated from a skier's weight, height, boot sole length and ability level.
