Passo Stelvio - Stilfserjoch ski resort

Passo Stelvio is a specialist's resort - and we mean that literally. With 30 easy runs and just one intermediate, this is a beginner and confidence-building destination, not a playground for varied ability levels. The high elevation (2769m to 3357m) and very good snow reliability make it a solid choice for early and late-season skiing when lower resorts are struggling. The vertical drop of 588m is modest, so don't expect long, flowing descents; instead, expect short, manageable pitches perfect for learning technique on consistent terrain.

The 20 lifts serving 14.1 km of piste suggests excellent lift infrastructure relative to terrain - you won't spend much time queuing. At EUR 55 for an adult day pass, it's reasonably priced for the Alps. However, the near-total absence of intermediate and advanced terrain is a genuine limitation. If anyone in your group wants to progress beyond easy runs or explore off-piste (rated just 1/5), you'll need to travel elsewhere. The typical season runs December to April, which is respectable, though the high altitude means conditions can be variable even with good snow reliability.

This resort suits absolute beginners, families with young children, and skiers rebuilding confidence after injury or a long break. It's also worth considering for a short, focused trip rather than a week-long holiday. The honest caveat: if your group has mixed abilities, Passo Stelvio alone will frustrate your stronger skiers within a day or two.
