Artouste ski resort

Artouste is a beginner-friendly resort in the Pyrenees (not the Alps, despite the location tag) that suits families and skiers taking their first runs. With 18 easy runs out of 22 total, it's a confidence-building playground where most visitors will find their level. The modest 623 m vertical and 6.8 km of piste mean you'll lap the mountain quickly - this is a half-day or full-day resort rather than a week-long destination. At EUR 60 per adult day pass, it's reasonably priced for the French market.

The real caveat is snow reliability. A 43/100 rating means Artouste sits in a marginal zone where you may face thin cover or closures, especially in shoulder seasons. The base elevation of 1415 m is relatively low for sustained snow. Off-piste is essentially non-existent (1/5 rating), so you're entirely dependent on groomed terrain. This works fine for beginners, but intermediate and advanced skiers will feel the ceiling quickly - just 3 intermediate and 1 advanced run won't hold your attention for long.

Best suited for families with young children, adult beginners, or as a warm-up day during a broader Pyrenees trip. Don't plan a week here. Visit in January-February for the best snow odds, and have a backup plan if conditions disappoint.
