Húsavík ski resort

Húsavík is not a ski resort in any conventional sense - it is a novelty slope in a whale-watching town on Iceland's north coast. We would only recommend it to visitors already in the area for other reasons, or to completists chasing obscure ski experiences. The single 87-metre vertical drop and 0.4 km of piste make it barely a warm-up run, and the snow reliability rating of 19/100 means you should expect bare ground more often than snow. The ISK 5500 day pass is eye-watering for what amounts to a few minutes of skiing.

What Húsavík does offer is novelty value and a genuinely unusual story to tell. If you are in Norðurþing for whale watching, geothermal pools, or other Icelandic attractions, and conditions happen to align, a quick run here becomes a quirky footnote to your trip rather than a serious ski day. The season runs December to May, giving you a six-month window, but do not expect reliable snow - this is a marginal operation in a marginal climate.

Skip Húsavík if you are looking for actual skiing. Go if you are already exploring Iceland's north coast and want to say you skied in the Arctic Circle. Bring low expectations and a sense of humour.
