Christmas Mountain is a tiny, family-oriented hill in Wisconsin that serves the Midwest's flattest terrain and shortest ski season. With just 57 metres of vertical and 2.4 km of piste, this is not a destination resort - it's a local hill for beginners and families within a few hours' drive of Milwaukee or Chicago. The run variety (4 easy, 4 intermediate, 4 advanced) is balanced for learning, and the two lifts keep things simple and uncrowded. If you're teaching kids to ski or want a casual afternoon on snow without the drive to Colorado or Lake Tahoe, it works.

The honest caveat is brutal: snow reliability here is abysmal at 6/100, meaning you'll spend most of the season hoping for natural snow or relying on what little snowmaking can achieve on a 56-metre hill. The season runs November through April, but don't expect consistent skiing until January at best. The USD 180 day pass is steep for what amounts to a practice slope - you're paying resort prices for a hill that barely qualifies as one.
