御在所スキー場, Gozaisho Ski Area ski resort

Gozaisho is a micro-resort in Mie Prefecture that suits families and beginners seeking a low-commitment introduction to skiing, or locals looking for a quick fix during winter. With just 0.43 km of piste and a 52 m vertical drop, this is not a destination for serious skiers or anyone chasing challenging terrain. The resort operates December through March and offers three lifts serving a modest groomed area, plus some off-piste options for those willing to explore.

The honest caveat is that Gozaisho is tiny by any standard. A strong intermediate skier will lap the entire piste in minutes. There is no resort infrastructure to speak of - no mention of lodging, dining, or après-ski. This works only as a day trip from nearby urban centers, or as a novelty stop for those touring Japan's ski landscape. The 52 m vertical and low base elevation (1147 m) mean snow reliability is weather-dependent, particularly as the season progresses into spring.

Gozaisho's real value lies in accessibility and simplicity. It is ideal for families introducing young children to snow sports, or for travelers who want to tick "skiing in Japan" without committing to a major resort. Expect a gentle, uncrowded experience - but do not expect variety, challenge, or the infrastructure of a proper ski destination.
