安比高原スキー場, Appi Kogen Ski Resort ski resort

Appi Kogen is a sprawling, beginner-friendly resort in rural Iwate Prefecture that suits families and learners seeking affordable, accessible skiing in Japan's northeast. With 22 easy runs across 30.7 km of terrain and eight lifts serving a modest 642 m vertical, it prioritizes volume and accessibility over challenge. The long season (December to May) and reasonable lift infrastructure make it a practical base for those new to skiing or wanting to build confidence on gentle slopes.

The honest caveat: snow reliability is highly variable, which is a significant concern for a Japanese resort at relatively modest elevation (626-1268 m). The off-piste rating of 1/5 signals minimal backcountry appeal, and with only six advanced runs, strong skiers will find the terrain limited. The day pass price of JPY 6000 (approximately JPY 900,000) is steep by global standards, though typical for Japanese resorts. This is not a destination for powder hounds or technical skiers seeking steep, untracked terrain.

Appi Kogen works best as a convenient, uncrowded learning hill for families or groups mixing abilities, or as a secondary resort within a broader Japan itinerary. Come with realistic expectations about snow conditions and terrain variety, and you will find a well-organized, beginner-centric mountain with a long operating window.
