星野リゾート 猫魔スキー場, Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain ski resort

Hoshino Resorts Nekoma Mountain is a small, family-friendly resort in Fukushima Prefecture that suits beginner and intermediate skiers looking for a gentle introduction to Japanese skiing without the crowds or expense of the major Nagano resorts. With 22 easy runs and 13 intermediate trails spread across 19.6 km of piste, it offers a manageable terrain mix ideal for building confidence on snow. The extended season from December through May is a genuine advantage for those flexible on timing.

The honest caveat is that this is a modest operation. Snow reliability is highly variable (rated 4/100), meaning you'll be gambling on natural snowfall and should check conditions closely before committing. The vertical drop of 601 m is modest, off-piste options are virtually non-existent (1/5 rating), and the resort lacks the infrastructure and terrain diversity of larger Japanese destinations. At JPY 6000 for an adult day pass, pricing is steep for what amounts to a local hill with limited vertical and variable conditions.

We'd recommend Nekoma as a secondary resort for a multi-mountain Fukushima trip, or as a quiet, low-pressure option for families and beginners who prioritize accessibility and a relaxed atmosphere over challenging terrain or guaranteed snow. Check the snow forecast and recent reports before booking.
