久万スキーランド, Kuma Ski Land ski resort
Kuma Ski Land is a tiny, local hill in Ehime Prefecture that suits only the most forgiving visitors - families with young children, complete beginners, or those seeking a novelty Japanese ski experience rather than serious skiing. With just 1.5 km of piste, 91 m of vertical, and a single easy run, this is a training slope masquerading as a resort. The four runs (one easy, two intermediate, one advanced) are laughably small by any standard, and the two lifts will move you between them in minutes.
The honest caveat is snow reliability: rated 9/100, Kuma is essentially a fair-weather hill dependent on winter conditions that Ehime's maritime climate rarely guarantees. You could easily arrive to find marginal or no skiable snow. The JPY 6000 day pass (roughly USD 6500) is eye-wateringly expensive for what you get - that's premium-resort pricing for a beginner park. Off-piste is non-existent (1/5 rating), so there is zero adventure terrain.
We'd only recommend Kuma as a curiosity stop during a broader Japan ski trip, perhaps for a half-day with children, not as a destination in itself. If you're serious about skiing Japan, head to Nagano or Hokkaido instead.
