Shangri-la is a niche resort for adventurous skiers willing to trade vertical and terrain variety for altitude, novelty, and the chance to ski in one of Asia's most dramatic mountain settings. At 3316 m base elevation in Yunnan's high plateau, this is skiing at genuine altitude - expect thin air, intense sun, and a landscape that feels genuinely remote. The 671 m vertical and 2.2 km of piste are modest by any standard, but that's not really the point here.

We'd recommend this for experienced skiers seeking a bucket-list experience rather than serious vertical or challenging terrain. The very good snow reliability (60/100) is respectable for China and the region, and the December-to-March season is workable, though you'll want to time visits carefully. The two lifts mean crowds are unlikely, but neither are options - this is intimate, sometimes lonely skiing.
