Arena Platoș ski resort

Arena Platoș suits beginners and families seeking an affordable, accessible introduction to skiing in Eastern Europe, or locals looking for convenient slope time near Sibiu. The resort's strength is its price - EUR 35 for a day pass is genuinely budget-friendly - and its gentle terrain: 13 easy runs mean nervous skiers won't feel pressured. The compact 3.7 km of piste and modest 98 m vertical drop keep things manageable for learning, and seven lifts suggest reasonable queuing even on busy days.

The honest caveats are significant. Snow reliability at 38/100 is mediocre; you're banking on December-to-March conditions holding, and warm spells could leave you skiing thin cover. The mountain is tiny - you'll lap the terrain quickly, and intermediate skiers will find one run insufficient. There's virtually no off-piste (1/5 rating), so this is purely groomed-run territory. This isn't a destination resort; it's a local hill that happens to welcome visitors. Come for a day trip from Sibiu if conditions align, or as a stepping stone for absolute beginners, but don't expect the variety or reliability of Alpine resorts.
